Direct Comparison of T2 and T2&[rho] Image Contrast in a Rat Model of Acute Cerebral Ischemia

چکیده
Introduction: Metabolic and structural changes occur in brain tissue within minutes of ischemia. Changes in the relative concentration of oxyand deoxy-hemoglobin, blood volume, and cell microstructure within ischemic tissue may also initiate specific metabolic processes and lead to changes in tissue magnetic susceptibility. The Localization by Adiabatic Selective Refocusing (LASER) MR localization sequence (1), has shown promise in detecting tissue H2O changes within the first few minutes of ischemia (2,3). This sequence is sensitive to the diffusion of spins through tissue regions with different magnetic susceptibility (3), and has demonstrated novel image contrast by combining sensitivity to T2, T2ρ and diffusion (T2 , 3,4). LASER can also be used to create high resolution, reduced field of view images. The purpose of this study was to make a direct in-vivo comparison of T2, T2ρ and diffusion image contrast during acute ischemia. It was hypothesized that T2ρ weighted images acquired using LASER would show enhanced contrast in ischemic tissue, compared to T2 weighted images acquired with a Carr-Purcell Meiboom Gill (CPMG) sequence and diffusion-weighted images. Effect of pentoxifylline on brain edema in a rat model of transient focal cerebral ischemia
Pervious studies have shown that pentoxifylline (PTX) has beneficial effects in reduction of stroke and brain trauma injuries in experimental animals. However, there is very little and controversial information about the effect of PTX on brain edema in cerebral ischemia. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effects of different doses of PTX on brain edema and neurological m...
متن کاملEvaluation the protective effect of aminoguanidine on cortex and striatum damage in acute phase of focal cerebral ischemia in rat
Introduction: Several studies have indicated that late treatment of aminoguanidine (AG) reduces cerebral ischemic injuries in animal models. However, the effects of early treatment of AG on cerebral ischemic damage are not well understood. This study was designed to evaluate effect of early treatment of AG on cortex and striatum injuries as well as neurological dysfunctions in transient mode...
متن کاملComparison effect of pentobarbital sodium with chloral hydrate anesthesia on post-ischemic damage in an experimental model of focal cerebral ischemia
Introduction: Anesthetic agents, blood pressure, arterial pH and blood gases have found to influence on the pathophysiology of experimental stroke. Despite, there are very few comparative studies about effects of anesthetic agents in animal model of cerebral ischemia. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effects of chloral hydrate and pentobarbital anesthesia, as comparative study, on...
متن کاملDirect, longitudinal comparison of (1)H and (23)Na MRI after transient focal cerebral ischemia.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE (23)Na MRI may offer new insight into the evaluation of tissue injury. We performed a direct, longitudinal, morphological comparison of (1)H T2 relaxation, (1)H apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), (23)Na content, and histopathology after cerebral ischemia to address the hypotheses that (a) (23)Na MRI is unique in comparison to (1)H MRI, and (b) accumulation of (23)Na is...
متن کاملDiffusion-weighted MR imaging of acute stroke: correlation with T2-weighted and magnetic susceptibility-enhanced MR imaging in cats.
We evaluated the temporal and anatomic relationships between changes in diffusion-weighted MR image signal intensity, induced by unilateral occlusion of the middle cerebral artery in cats, and tissue perfusion deficits observed in the same animals on T2-weighted MR images after administration of a nonionic intravascular T2 shortening agent. Diffusion-weighted images obtained with strong diffusi...
